The soap was distributed in four by our partner the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in four Central American countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua). Recipients were the female head of household in chronically poor regions who participate in the CDC’s survey about water use, sanitation practices and hygiene education, ie. handwashing (WASH). The interviews are part of a 10-year sustainability project being done by the CDC and the American Red Cross (ARC). These communities have been followed for 10 years to evaluate the ARC’s WASH program.
